Santi Visalli was an Italian-born American photographer who became famous for his iconic images of society figures and political leaders in the mid-twentieth century. Born on April 18, 1931, in Palermo, Italy, Visalli emigrated to the United States in 1956 and settled in New York City.
Visalli worked for numerous publications during his career, including The New York Times, Life, Newsweek, and Time, among others. His photographs captured some of the most notable moments of the era, including the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, and political campaigns. Visalli was particularly known for his portraits of U.S. presidents, including John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan.
Throughout his career, Visalli received numerous awards and honors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the United Nations Society of Writers and Artists. He passed away on November 26, 2020, at the age of 89. His legacy as a talented and influential photographer continues to be celebrated by many in the photography community.
